ENFD gets help on Valentines Day

On Sunday, February 14th, the East Northport Fire Department responded to a call for an odor of gas inside a strip mall on the 800 block of Ft Salonga Road. The dispatcher received numerous calls for the odor, as well as several notifications of sprinkler activations inside the structure. The buildings were evacuated by the ENFD Chiefs prior to the arrival of the first engine.

Engines 2-10-1, 2-10-4 and 2-10-6, Ambulances 2-10-15 and 2-10-25, and the East Northport medic responded to the call. ENFD conducted operations inside the strip mall in several businesses searching for any source of the odor. Members of the Northport Fire Department lent mutual aid and conducted operations on the roof with tower ladder 2-9-7.

After over an hour on scene, the ENFD Chief in collaboration with the Suffolk County Fire Marshall deemed the structures safe to return to. ENFD concluded operations and released Northport FD with thanks.

One patient was transported by ENFD to a local hospital for suspicion of carbon monoxide ingestion. No firefighters were injured during operations.
