Heavy Rescue MVA with a serious injury.

On Saturday afternoon at 3:08pm the East Northport Fire Department responded to a Motor Vehicle Accident with injuries and entrapment in front of the CVS shopping center on Larkfield Rd south of Clay Pitts Rd. Chief Bourne arrived on scene and quickly established Command. During his initial scene size up, Dispatch and incoming units were advised that there was a total of three patients. Two patients had minor injuries and one patient was trapped in the drivers seat of a four door sedan with serious injuries. EMS crews arrived shortly after and began to assess and treat the patients. Upon the arrival of Rescue/Engine 2-10-6 and 2-10-1 crews began working with numerous extrication tools including “The Jaws of Life” to free the trapped driver. Crews removed the drivers side front and rear doors as well as the “B post” allowing EMS crews to safely remove the patient from the vehicle to the ambulance where he was further treated. It was determined that due to the patients current medical status and mechanism of injury a Medivac helicopter would be the required mode of transportation to the nearest trauma hospital. EMS crews packaged the patient for transportation by ambulance to the landing zone at a nearby park. The patient was then loaded onto the SCPD Medivac helicopter for transportation to Stony Brook University The scene was turned over to the Suffolk County Police Department for an accident investigation.
