Fire at Building undergoing renovations.

On Wednesday morning at 7:00am firefighters responded to the Larkfield Plaza in the 200 block of Larkfield Rd for reports of smoke coming from a business and a fire alarm indicating a fire sprinkler activation. Under the command of Chief Heffernan, assisted by Chiefs Flanagan and Bourne. Fire crews quickly located the remanence of a fire that had been extinguished by the fire sprinkler system in an office that was currently under renovation. Crews shut down the sprinkler system, checked for extension and overhauled the area that had been affected by fire. Approximately 25 Fire and EMS personnel operated on scene for just over 30 minutes with three Engines, two ambulances and a paramedic unit. A Tower Ladder from the Northport Volunteer Fire Department was also called to the scene for assistance. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Town of Huntington Fire Marshall's Office. However, it is believed that the fire started in a plastic container filled with rags soaked in wood staining chemicals that had been used during the renovations. There were no injuries.
