On July 10th, 2016, the members of the East Northport Fire Department traveled to the Suffolk County Fire Academy in Yaphank, NY to participate in Advanced Extrication Training.
Fresh off the heels of their Chuck Varese Extrication Tournament victory in May, the members took a turn at a complicated extrication scenario set up by the instructors at the Academy.
Led by Chief Dan Flanigan, with the assistance of Lieutenants Brian Gosik and Matt Cambria, members of Engine Company 1, Engine Company 2, Hood and Ladder Company and the Rescue Squad participated in a mock exercise involving 2 vehicles and 4 simulated patients.
For several of the departments newer members, it was the first time using the the extrication tools such as the "jaws of life". For the veterans, it was a chance to experience a more advanced scenario with real world implications.
Approximately 30 members participated in the training. East Northport FD respond to over 2500 calls a year and has over 100 volunteer members responding to emergencies 24 hours a day.
