On Wednesday, June 8th, The members of the East Northport Fire Department traveled the to the Suffolk County Fire Academy in Yaphank, NY. The purpose of the trip was to participate in a "Class A" residential structure live fire exercise.
At the Fire Academy, firefighters are able to experience the conditions of a real fire. Instructors who are specialized in live burn exercises, lead the training. By participating in these exercises, and discussions afterwards, members are able to improve their firefighting skills in a controlled environment, as well as getting instant feedback from the instructors.
The ENFD travels out to Yaphank several times a year. Approximately 35 members participated in this training.
