Thanksgiving morning at 11:15am The East Northport Fire Department responded to a Working Residential Structure Fire on 5th Avenue. Under the command of Chief’s Dan Flanagan and Tom Bourne crews worked extremely aggressively to extinguish heavy fire in the rear of a home as well as search the home, verifying all occupants had self-evacuated. Crews were met with several challenges including multiple occupancies and blocked entrances. Despite all challenges, crews had water on the fire within 10 minutes of receiving the alarm. Due to the quick and aggressive attack by our members and our mutual aid companies, the fire was extinguished with minimal extension to other areas of the structure. Crews worked on scene for over two hours. Two civilians were treated for smoke inhalation and transported by EMS to Stony Brook University Medical Center. Mutual aid assistance was received from the Northport Volunteer Fire Department, Greenlawn Fire Department, Kings Park Fire Department and the Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps as well as the Cyanide Response Team provided by Paramedics from the Dix Hills Fire Department, Greenlawn Fire Department and Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps. The scene was turned over to the Town of Huntington Fire Marshals office and the Suffolk County Police Department’s Arson Squad for an investigation.
