Weather dosen't stop ceremonies

May 31, 2016

On Memorial Day this year, all across Long Island,  parades were cancelled due to inclement weather. A little rain however, did not stop the East Northport Fire Department from conducting memorial services around the town in honor of our service men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

The ceremonies started this year in front of Fire Headquarters on 9th ave and Larkfield Rd. where a memorial wreath was laid in memory of fallen firefighters. The department then went to the grave site of Ex-Chief Dominick Venuti and paid their respects. From there the members went to John Walsh Park in East Northport to lay a wreath in honor of our service men and women.

After all the department ceremonies, a small contingent of the members marched to the home of the late Cpl. Christopher G. Scherer, USMC, to pay their respects and lay a wreath. Cpl Scherer lost his life in Iraq on July 21st, 2007 and his family has had a special relationship with volunteer firefighters throughout Chris' life.
