Commercial Working Fire

Early Saturday afternoon ENFD firefighters responded to a working fire in a two story commercial building with apartments on the second floor at 376 Larkfield Rd. Numerous departments operated under the command of ENFD Chiefs Dan Flanagan, Tom Bourne and Steven Macedonio. Crews worked aggressively for over two hours to extinguish heavy fire that had extended from a second floor apartment into a common attic and spread throughout the building. The American Red Cross and the East Northport Salvation Army assisted the 102 residents who were displaced from the 20 apartments involved. Two firefighters were injured at the scene. One was treated and transported to an area hospital after sustaining a non life threatening arm injury and has since been released. The other firefighter was treated at the scene for a minor burn. Approximately 100 emergency personnel from numerous agencies operated at the scene with 7 engines, 4 ladders, 3 ambulances, as well as fire police, rehab/support units and the Cyanide Response Team provided by Paramedics from the Dix Hills Fire Department, Greenlawn Fire Department and Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Mutual aid was provided by the Northport Volunteer Fire Department, Commack Fire Department, Greenlawn Fire Department Fan Page, Kings Park Fire Department, Centerport Fire Department, Dix Hills Fire Department, and the Huntington Manor Fire Department. The scene was turned over to the Town of Huntington Fire Marshals office and the Suffolk County Police Department’s Arson Squad for an investigation. (Photo credit: Joe Sperber and Ryan Koch)
