Landfill
 
At approximately 1255 hrs on Wednesday July 7th a signal 12 was transmitted at the former Town of Huntington Landfill located adjacent to the Covanta Energy Plant on Townline Road. Upon arrival we were met with a large area of brush involved in fire and spreading rapidly. Mutual aid requests were initiated immediately. Three challenges faced during operations were exposures to private dwellings on McFadden Drive, Thrush Court, Arleigh Drive and the 5th Avenue extension; Methane gas from the landfill fueling the fire; and 100 degree temperatures with high levels of humidity during operations.

A Kings Park man was seriously injured on his motorcycle Wednesday night, while fleeing from police. Under the Command of Chiefs McCoy, Tarantino and Ervin, the patient was stabilized and transported to Grace Hubbs Field where he was airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital.

A gas leak at Birchwood Adult Home forced the evacuation of about 65 residents to a nearby Salvation Army facility. Under the command of 2nd Assistant Chief Joseph Ervin, mutual aid was quickly requested from Greenlawn, Northport, Centerport, Dix Hills, Huntington Manor, Halesite and Commack Ambulance Squad. Rescue personnel used buses to help transport residents to the Salvation Army.

On Friday January 1st, 2010 at 1252 hrs the East Northport Fire Department signed on the air with a Signal 13 - Reported Structure Fire (69-D-4) at #306 Ninth Avenue. Upon simultaneous arrival of all Chiefs – a report of fire showing on the second floor (exposure 1 and 4) was transmitted. Command was established; and mutual aid was requested from Northport Fire Department for a FAST Team to the scene. Additional mutual aid requests were made from Commack, Greenlawn and Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps to standby at East Northport’s Headquarters. Engine and Truck Company Members reported heavy fire involving two rooms and a hallway leading to the interior staircase. Two 1¾” handlines were stretched and placed into operation. Searches were in progress and Trucks continued to open up checking for extension. Under the command of Chief's McCoy, Tarantino and Ervin the fire was placed under control within twenty-five minutes." Photos by Steve Silverman
